A New Resource for Georgia Manufacturers

Located on Lanier Tech's Oakwood campus near Gainesville, the Manufacturing Innovation Center (MIC) opened in February 2006. The center works with industry, government, entrepreneurs and educational institutions developing our state's manufacturing workforce, fostering innovation and increasing job growth in Georgia.

Staffed by a team of experienced manufacturing professionals, MIC offers advanced training, research and development support and incubation services to companies throughout the state.

Workforce Development

Automation requires an investment in equipment and systems; however, the need for investment doesn't stop with the new purchase. To achieve the expected results from automation and maximize the function of new technology, companies must also invest in upgrading the skills of their employees by training them to properly operate and maintain the equipment and systems.

Understanding the importance of training, MIC worked with Georgia industries and advanced technology equipment manufacturers from all over the world to design and equip four advanced manufacturing labs with the latest robotic, PLC and CIM equipment and systems used by companies in production operations. As a result, the center provides hands-on training in robotics operation and troubleshooting, robotics programming, robotic welding and PCL maintenance and troubleshooting.

A major benefit of MIC training is the fact each session is customized to meet the exact needs of the company. This means operators and technicians return to work with specific skills and experience directly applicable to the job they perform every day. And access to equipment located in one place within the state makes it easier and more cost effective for Georgia companies to train employees.

In addition to factory automation, MIC offers customized training in lean manufacturing, equipment maintenance and safety.

R&D Support

At MIC, manufacturers find an R&D friendly environment where they can prototype and test ideas, products and processes. Our team helps clients speed the commercialization of new ideas by connecting them with research organizations to assist in bringing their concept to market.

Job Growth

Our Manufacturing Development Center (MDC) provides facilities, equipment, training and support services to help new manufacturing companies start up and grow. Direct support from our MDC Director, along with the tangible assets our facility provides, helps start up companies grow strong in a stable, supportive environment. We recognize new manufacturing companies bring more than jobs to Georgia... MIC helps these companies succeed.
