Georgia Manufacturing Activity Shows Increase in October
12/03/2009
Georgia’s overall October PMI score of 48.9, a 4.3 point increase from September, is the result of a significant rise in New Orders and Production. New Orders increased 18.8 points to combat September’s 13.5 point slide, and Production increased 9.8 points to adjust for New Orders.
Employment numbers showed a drop of 3.6 points; however, the October score remains 5.9 points higher than the average of the last 6 months. Employment is expected to show an increase in the November score to address the rise in New Orders.
When asked about the results of the October PMI, 32% of Georgia manufacturers expect an increase in production in the next 3 to 6 months while only 17% predict a decrease.
Georgia gained ground on the regional competition in October by receiving the 3rd highest PMI score and is moving in a positive direction along with the rest of the southeast. On a national level, the PMI has been on a strong upward trend since July.
The PMI study is based on a survey to major companies and analyzes trends and activity of new orders, production, employment, deliveries, purchased materials, finished goods, and commodity prices for the manufacturing sector.
