Finished Inventory Causes Raise in Georgia’s December PMI Score
1/29/2010
Overall manufacturing activity in Georgia rose 2.4 points in December thanks mostly to increased inventory. While an upward shift of 3.8 points in Employment was a factor in the overall increase, it was the 14.2-point jump in the Finished Inventory category that was the basis of our increase. While New Orders was down an insignificant .3 points, Production was down 6.1 points.
Compared to the other participating southeastern states, Georgia’s overall PMI score of 45.9 was above average once again. The national PMI numbers continue to move in a positive direction, keeping the overall U.S. PMI score in an expansion mode.
The PMI study is based on a survey to major companies and analyzes trends and activity of new orders, production, employment, deliveries, purchased materials, finished goods, and commodity prices for the manufacturing sector.
